Abstract

The Educators, from all levels, tend to primarily focus on the content of the syllabus, and on how to cover it in full. However, we frequently seem to forget that to broaden our students’ minds is sometimes much more important, as this makes them aware of the need and desire to learn. Due to this, this paper will address the possibility of developing a Socratic pedagogy for teaching music in Primary Education. Stemming from the teaching methodologies of Rousseau, Pestalozzi, and Dewey, we will examine the benefits of developing our students’ ability to reflect and explore, in opposition to mechanic memorization and passive repetition of previously acquired contents.
