Abstract

The document compiles five key developments in international arbitration. India has notified 68 countries of its intention to terminate and renegotiate bilateral investment treaties based on its 2015 model. Suriname and Timor-Leste have joined the 1958 New York Convention, reinforcing their recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards. The UAE amended its arbitration law to allow, under strict conditions, members of arbitral institutions to serve as arbitrators. China passed a new law abandoning the principle of absolute immunity for foreign states, allowing commercial and arbitration-related claims against them. Lastly, the European Union has responded to anti-arbitration injunctions from Russian courts by introducing sanctions aimed at protecting EU-based arbitration and judicial proceedings from external interference.
