Abstract

This volume brings together a series of contributions by leading experts in international arbitration and aims, three years after the WHO's announcement on March 11, 2020, of the spread of the COVID-19 virus, to examine the significant innovations in the world of arbitration that the pandemic brought about. As Bernardo Cremades explains in his introductory commentary, this volume seeks to take a step back and reflect on how the pandemic disrupted certain procedural assumptions implicit in international arbitration and led lawyers and arbitrators to rethink common case management techniques. Ultimately, this reflection offers an opportunity to analyze certain procedural practices in international arbitration in order to improve the conduct of arbitration and thus enable a more effective and efficient mechanism for alternative dispute resolution.
