Abstract

Block play with wooden blocks is considered “an appropriate practice within development” for children from 2 to 6 years. Literature on children’s play ensures that block building has great importance for the development of children’s logical-mathematical knowledge. In this paper, we propose an exploratory study on block play with children aged 2 and 3, observing and recording their construction processes. Our goal is to reflect on this practice in order to formulate questions about the origin of children’s mathematical activity.
