Abstract

The main purpose of this article is to examine current occupational health and safety training practices, from the point of view of protagonists and focusing on workers’ training. This qualitative research study was carried out in 2005 by 4 discussion groups (2 made up of workers, 1 of health and safety specialists and 1 of safety reps) and 9 in-depth interviews with high ranking executives. The results show that training is considered as an element that increases health and safety awareness but its methodology, although mandatory, is perceived as non-participative, inadequate, not adapted to workplaces, limited and unpractical.
