Short-short story and microfiction: from nomenclature to the structure of a literary genre

Minifiction is a genre that simulates the narrative act through certain significant mechanisms: transtextual, metafictional, parodic and ironic, to build their structure on a syntactic and semantic level. Additionally, this literary genre modifies the narrative paradigms through the deliberate disarticulation of the plot as a tool that demands the narrative intelligence of the reader. Though its briefness may be justified by the number of word used in its composition, this feature doesn’t architectonically determine its unique textual mechanism. Bearing this in mind, the objective of this paper is to propose a structural difference between the terms “minificción” and “microrrelato” through a textual analysis, supported by Hermeneutics, that moves from the nomenclature of these short structures towards their specific genre differences.
