The cinema’s “Hero” in Julio Torri

Abstract

Attending an allusion of a filmmaker in a short story, which presents itself apparently insignificant, of the Mexican writer Julio Torri, “Hero”, I begin to contrive about the narrative and figurative scope that involves the textuality and extratextuality in a fictional universe which generic watermark goes far beyond the fantasy. The allusion is presented as the link between two worlds: that of cinema and that of literature. Which is attached, not only in the semantics of both, but to the referential problem of reality and fiction in the literary creation of the Mexican writer. Certainly “Hero” presents palpable elements that occasion the anachronistic articulation of a story of classical antiquity (the myth of St. George and the Dragon) with the contemporary of the author (the first half of the twentieth century), which is decisive for the character of pastiche that the text has. In this paper I examine closely the way in which the intersection of both worlds occurs at the narrative level, their articulation, as well as the rhetorical contagion, which is mainly metaphorical, and which is also configured in the text from its brevity.
