Ajuar funerario, the comic: an intramedial and intermedial adaptation between deceased, infants and monsters

Abstract

Ajuar funerario, published in 2004 by the Peruvian Fernando Iwasaki, is one of the canonical works of contemporary minification. This collection of fantastic short stories inserted in the horror literature has rewrites of various kinds to which in 2018 its adaptation to the comic. The eighteen micronarratives that make up the volume, selected by Imanol Ortiz López and illustrated by Beñat Olea, are the result of an adaptation process in which formal transformations operate on two levels, intramedial and intermedial. The first, anchored to the hypotext, warns of intrinsic alterations (uses and modes of language) and extrinsic (configuration, format and extension). On the contrary, the second, centered on the microcomics that make up the Deceased, Infants and Monsters series, are the result of an intermedial metamorphosis. In this sense, the implementation of a new code will enrich the interaction between both axes thanks to the concept of increased narration.
