Through a qualitative content analysis of the Spanish newspaper articles written on the subject at the time, this article examines the press coverage of one of the most decisive events happened during the transition from francoist dictatorship to democracy: the appointment of Adolfo Suárez as Prime Minister on 3rd July 1976, a decision taken by King Juan Carlos I. The aim is to approach the role of the Spanish Press during these years in which efforts were made to democratize, as well as to know more about political personalities who played a leading role at that time.
