We propose a model to influence the process of formation of the public image of politicians through the construction of an audiovisual narrative elaborated by means of signs capable of symbolizing the characteristics that define the identity of the politician. For this purpose, the presidency of Mariano Rajoy 2011-2018 has been taken as a case study. First, the personal, professional and political characteristics that define the identity of President Rajoy are selected. Subsequently, signs capable of symbolizing these characteristics are identified. Personal, gestural, iconic, technical and political elements, which visually express some attributes, which are abstract and immaterial ideas and which make up an audiovisual narrative transmitted through television. The analysis of surveys conducted during the period under investigation allows us to verify that the characteristics identified as typical of Mariano Rajoy's identity are in the image that the public opinion formed of him as president of the government.
