Abstract

The aim of this research is to explore the experience of working as a female journalist in the News Services of Televisión Española (TVE) from the 1990s to the year 2023. It is, therefore, a historiographical study that, through a gender perspective, examines the professional situation of female journalists at the public television network with the aim of giving voice to their experiences and reflecting on the evolution of this medium in terms of equality.

The methodology used is mixed. For the qualitative analysis, thirty-two in-depth interviews were conducted. The second part of the study focuses on a quantitative analysis of the first 101 episodes of the program Objetivo Igualdad (TVE).

The main conclusions highlight the significance of the country’s feminist progress and its impact on the TVE´s newsroom. Thus, it can be stated that although legal advances in gender equality have improved the working conditions of female communicators at TVE, they have not been sufficient to eliminate the gender imbalance that still persists in certain prestigious positions. Finally, seven new lines of research are proposed to encourage the continuation of gender studies in this field.
