In a media scenario like the current one, where immediacy and the large amount of information are dominating, and where audiences are becoming more and more participative both for the good and for generating noise and spreading hoaxes, the survival of journalism depends not only on defending its main features, i.e. quality and independence in explaining and interpreting reality, but also on adapting to it. New technologies, the economic, audience and credibility crises of the journalistic media; the new information habits of the citizenry; the rethinking of professional procedures; the rise of new narratives; new business models and fields of expertise or the redefining of the socio-political role of the journalist constitute a number of challenges that the practice and theory of journalism in the digital age must face in order to continue to fulfil its function. It seems clear, after analysing the different articles that comprise this monograph, that the survival of the profession depends on not forgetting its responsibility for providing quality information, distinctive, accurate, with added features and greater visual support and in any format that can be consumed by the different audiences.
