Abstract

This thesis analyses 60 guidelines on how to report violence against women. Objectives: 1) To disaggregate the
authorship of guidelines by sex; 2) To analyse the guidelines’ commitment level according to a more sensitive journalism for
the violence against women coverage; and 3) To quantify the homogeneity of the ethical recommendations. Method: Content
Analysis and Inductive Method. The results show that (1) the authorship of the guidelines is eminently female; that (2) despite the proliferation of this type of manuals, the level of commitment of 51% guidelines to the journalistic resolution of the problem is negative; that (2.1) the documents prepared by experts present higher levels of optimal commitment; that (2.2) the documents prepared by women also offer higher levels of commitment; and that (3) there is a great homogeneity of the ethical proposals
