Abstract

In this article it is presented the current evidence about the prosocial and antisocial effects of television on children. In the paper are reviewed the last meta-analysis studies about this topic. The results are conclusive: about 10% of the variance of aggressive behaviour and 5% of the variance of prosocial behaviour can be explained by the impact of the television contents. Therefore, we need mechanisms that permit the control and self-regulation of the audiovisual contents. In addition, it would be necessary to develop independent content analysis studies of the television programming.
