The school’s gaze on cinema: Film Media Education in the Italian school: the case of Bari
Abstract
This doctoral thesis explores the path that the world of Italian education has taken to abandon all suspicions towards the cinema and to be able to achieve the ideas that are at the base of Media Education on the identification, management and development of the necessary skills to interact with the media and information and communication technologies. The qualitative exploratory research - carried out through semi-structured interviews with teachers in schools with professional specialties in Bari - confirmed that cinema is among the didactic instruments used for teaching-learning and is used as a valuable aid to traditional didactics and that the professional institutes studied focus on carrying out projects, especially extracurricular, film production and / or deepening, rather than on viewing films and what is useful for improving teaching.
