This monograph is intended to serve as both a roadmap and a compass for communication research. To this end, it presents a series of articles that map out some socially and academically relevant objects of study. Specifically, they summarise the research that has been carried out, as well as how it has been conducted with regard to photography and photojournalism, the television medium, cancer communication on social media, and disinformation. Systematic reviews such as these will be especially useful for those who are new to these topics, as well as those who need to consult a compendium of the main debates and questions they pose in the discipline, and especially for the purpose of identifying possible new lines of research. New methodologies are also explored and applied, namely the computational and automated analysis of large volumes of data applied to the study of newspaper headlines.
