Author Guidelines

Doxa Comunicación manages the reception, review an publication of original manuscripts with the tool known as OJS (Open Journal System). Before submitting a manuscript, please see "How to submit an article to Doxa Comunicación".

All manuscripts will be sent exclusively through this platform: (https://revistascientificas.uspceu.com/doxacomunicacion/about/submissions). 

Originals sent via email will not be accepted. Registration and login on the OJS platform is required in order to proceed with the submissions.

  • Doxa Comunicación will not charge any fee for the application, processing, publication or reading of articles in the magazine. Doxa Comunicación does not charge APCs (Article Processing Charges).
  • Papers sent to Doxa Comunicación must be the result of original scientific research, which provides new and significant conclusions within the specific areas of the journal after using a duly justified methodology and updated bibliography.
  • Works that do not conform to the Editorial Standards of the journal will be returned to their authors for modification before initiating the revision process.
  • Acknowledgement of receipt will be issued automatically for all manuscripts received through the OJS platform.
  • The submitted manuscript will be a Microsoft Word format file (.doc/.docx), single-spaced; the font size and type will be Times New Roman font 12; italics will be used instead of underlining (except for URLs); and all illustrations, figures and tables will be inside the text in their corresponding place and not at the end of the text. The source of each table, graph, and chart will be indicated.
  • The manuscript must be sent anonymously, and as such, the author's personal data shall not be included in the manuscript. Any reference that allows for identification of authorship of the text will be omitted. However, the name of the author will not be replaced by the word "author," either in the citations or in the final bibliography, as it is understood that a well-cited reference does not have to be associated with the author of the text. In the document properties (see file-properties), digital fingerprints that might identify the author must be deleted.
  • Bibliographic references contain only the works cited in the manuscript, and they have complied with APA format. Furthermore, they have been included in the corresponding field of the manuscript metadata, separated by a carriage return between each reference. The DOI and web addresses have been added where possible. URLs that are too long will be shortened to make them easier to read. Crossref has an online form "Simple Text Query" that automatically assigns the DOI number to the references entered: https://apps.crossref.org/SimpleTextQuery
  • Authors must fill in all metadata of the submission. They shall upload their complete metadata (institutional affiliation, institutional email, ORCID, CV of about 100-150 words, etc.) in section 3 "Metadata" of the submission process.
  • The metadata of the manuscript shall also be completed, including the type of research being submitted and the body that is funding the work (when available). The order of the authors (links "add contributors", section 3 "Metadata" of the submission process) will be the one that appears in the article.
  • In the case of co-authorship, the authors will decide beforehand the order of the signatories, and they will indicate this to the journal. The individual participation of each author in the different headings will also be mentioned ( section 6. of the article, named "Contributions"), indicating the name and surname of the authors, with the possibility of several authors participating in the same task.   • All authors must include their institutional email address, university affiliation, and ORCID researcher ID in the metadata. Doxa Comunicación accepts a maximum of four authors per manuscript. Due to the high volume of manuscripts received by the journal Doxa Comunicación, and in order to ensure the scientific quality of the articles, works by researchers in training and/or pre-doctoral candidates will only be accepted when they are co-authored and signed by researchers with established academic credentials.
  • Papers shall be submitted to an anonymous external “double-blind peer review” system according to the procedure and criteria made public by the journal.
  • Doxa Comunicación will notify the authors of the editor’s decision, which will include the reasons that have led to the acceptance or rejection of the manuscripts, as well as the opinions issued by the reviewers.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • In the event that the article passes the external double-blind anonymous review, the author agrees to provide Doxa Comunicación with an English version of the text. The English translations will be consistent and of high quality, so if the author is unable to do the translation by his/her own means, Doxa Comunicación will provide him/her with the contact of a professional translator with whom Doxa Comunicacion works on a regular basis. The cost of the translation will be borne by the author. All texts in English will be proofread prior to publication.
  • A year should pass from the date of publication of an article before an author can publish a new article in Doxa Comunicación.
  • The consent of those who have contributed unpublished data, which have been obtained through verbal or written communication, has been obtained and their authorship is properly and explicitly identified.
  • The results of the study have been interpreted objectively. Any results contrary to the views of the authors are presented and discussed in the article.
  • The origin of published figures, tables, data, photographs, etc., is adequately and completely cited, and the required permission is provided for their reproduction in any medium.
  • The original sources on which the information contained in the manuscript is based are identified and cited.
  • All sources of funding for research grants are acknowledged, briefly indicating the funding body and the identification or reference code.
  • In the comments section, the signatories add information regarding any commercial and/or financial links with persons and institutions that may have interests related to the proposed work.
  • The work is original and unpublished. No signature of those responsible for the work have been omitted from the paper, and the criteria for scientific authorship have been fulfilled. The contribution of each author has been indicated in each tasks, being possible that several authors could be involved in the same task. Doxa Comunicación accepts a maximum of 4 authors in each manuscript.
  • The work has not been previously published, nor is it in a review process with another journal, and it has not been, nor will it be sent, to another journal for publication, unless it is rejected. If this is not the case, an explanation should be provided in the "Comments to the Editor" section.
  • All authors of a manuscript, with their metadata (ORCID, University of affiliation, brief CV, institutional email, etc.), must be registered on the platform from the moment the text is sent (step 3, "enter metadata", section "Authorship and collaborators", "add collaborator"). The order of signature of the authors must also be indicated. Under no circumstances will be accepted the incorporation of new authors who were not identified and registered in the first submission of the manuscript.
  • All authors who sign a paper have participated in its planning, writing, execution and interpretation of the results, which will be specifically indicated in the "Contributions" section of the document; they have also critically reviewed the manuscript, approved its final version and agree to its publication.
  • All of the people who sign the manuscript have avoided making mistakes in their approach, in the presentation of the results, and in their interpretation. If any errors are discovered in the article, before or after its publication, they will alert the Editor of the journal.
  • None of the data presented have been plagiarized, invented, manipulated or distorted; also the original data are clearly distinguished from those already published.
  • In the acknowledgements section, mention is made of those persons who have collaborated in the preparation of the work but do not appear in the authorship section nor are they responsible for the preparation of the manuscript. This heading includes the name of the translator of the work.
  • The authors retain their copyright and grant the journal the right of first publication of their work, which will be simultaneously subject to the Creative Commons License, Attribution-NonCommercial, International License (CC BY-NC 4.0). The scientific community is free to share, copy, and redistribute the material in any medium or format, and to remix, transform, and build upon that material under the following terms: Proper credit must be given (journal, authors, URL/DOI), and it is not used for commercial purposes.

Miscellaneous of Research articles and essays

Priority will be given to articles disseminating the results of scientific research. All manuscript may have a minimum of 5,000 and a maximum of 10,000 words. They will be sent in Word format (.doc/.docx), Times New Roman font, body 12, single spacing, and standard margins. They must contain, in Spanish and English, title, abstract (between 150 and 200 words) and 5 key words. For each author, the following must be provided: name and surname, institutional e-mail address, ORCID code, a brief CV of around 100 words and a current passport-size photograph with a white background.

The epigraphs shall be listed in Arabic numerals following the standard structure of 1., 1.1, 1.1.1, etc. Tables and/or figures shall be numbered in Arabic numerals as well from one to infinity, indicating the source and authorship. Citations will be entered into the text in Harvard format (e.g. Bauman, 2010: 126), not at the foot of the page. Regarding bibliographical references.  This  section will include only the works cited in the work, which will be mostly current and will be presented in APA 7th edition format. It is important to add the DOI (where available) and the URLs for consultation. In addition, the references used will be loaded in the manuscript metadata, separated by a carriage return. Manuscripts must be structured according to the IMRDCyB format (Introduction, Method, Results, Discussion, Conclusions and Bibliography) detailed below:

  • Introduction: this includes the state of the issue, the objectives, and hypotheses. In the first part of the article, it is necessary to justify the object of study. The state of the matter must reflect the theoretical foundation and the precedent of the research, as well as the author's position with regard to other works.
  • Methodology: explain the methodology used: qualitative, quantitative or descriptive; as well as the technique used: content analysis, discussion groups, etc.
  • Results: orderly and clear presentation of the research results. If there are any tables and figures representing the results obtained, they should be included.
  • Discussion: clear and precise answers to the questions asked at the beginning of the research. The findings of the study, as well as anomalous or unproven results, are to be highlighted.
  • Conclusions: These will be drawn exclusively from the results and will be a synthesis of the findings, clearly and concisely elaborated. The conclusions may incorporate suggestions for future research.
  • Bibliographical references: The aim is not to compile a select bibliography, but to include only the works cited in the paper. The bibliography should be international, include scientific articles and be up to date. 

Scientific essays are equally welcome. At Doxa, we interpret this type of contribution according to the definition given by José Ortega y Gasset: “An essay is science without definitive proof”. It is, therefore, about scientific contributions that approach a problem of study with intellectual, argumentative and wise vocation, enlightening an existing problem, discussing the issue with other authors, or suggesting new dialectics and proposals for interpretation of part of the reality. Essays that lack these features and those with repetitive, sterile or merely speculative proposals will be not accepted. Both articles and essays are subject to the rules indicated in the introductory paragraph.

Research notes

Doxa comunicación accepts originals that do not possess a clear scientific methodology, but may be of interest for publication due to their essayistic and/or descriptive value. Research notes consist of information related to research that is in progress, development of scientific work, or conclusions of a study. They will not be subject to external evaluation, but must have a favourable report from two members of the Editorial Board. Originals sent to this section shall be governed by the same rules of submission as research articles. They will have a length of 4 to 8 pages, using Times New Roman size 12 font, single- spaced. The notes should have the heading in the following manner: a descriptive title, a summary of 50 words, and keywords, all of which will be in Spanish and English. These notes will also include bibliographic references used in the text, written with a style in accordance with the standards used for Articles. They must contain the name/s of the author or authors, and professional references, as well as e-mails.

Bibliographic reviews

New bibliographic releases of scientific interest in the area of Communication and Social Sciences will be reviewed. They will be between 1,000 and 2,000 words long, using Times New Roman size 12 font, single-spaced.

Reviews must include:

  • The name and surname of the author of the review, and the university/research centre to which the author belongs.
  • Keywords: 4/5 words that refer precisely to the content of the book.
  • Technical specifications of the reviewed work: title in italics, author, publisher, city, year, total number of pages, and ISBN.
  • Cover image of the work reviewed, less than 1 mega, and in .jpg format.
  • Review writing: this should include some brief information about the author, a summary of the content, quotations that support the statements made by the author, a reasoned critical assessment with reference to certain paragraphs or parts of the article, and a conclusion in which the reader is informed of the value, interest or benefit of the article reviewed.

Doctoral thesis news

Doxa comunicación will report the latest doctoral theses presented in the field of communication sciences in order to collaborate in the dissemination of scientific information. Each author must send information to the journal’s editor regarding the thesis, including the following:
